Paramedic Students Train for Emergency Childbirth

One of the most stressful, emotional, and eventful calls for first responders involves emergency childbirth.

Battalion Chief Jake Cox says a field delivery (outside a hospital setting) happens more often than you might think. Therefore, it’s crucial for paramedics to understand signs, symptoms, and unexpected challenges.

At Owensboro Health, students were asked to deliver a baby in the breech position, along with Umbilical cord prolapse. The paramedic training included personnel from Daviess County Fire Department, Owensboro Fire Department and AMR Owensboro.
