Growing pains with new KAVIS system at Auto Department

The Daviess County Clerk’s Office reports that most renewals and transfers are working properly in the new KAVIS system.

However, online renewal is unavailable due to site maintenance.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is hopeful the portal will be fixed this week at https://drive.ky.gov/.

In the meantime, January/February renewals may be mailed to the Clerk’s Office to avoid standing in line.  Include your renewal notice, insurance card and phone number.

At this time, the Clerk’s Office is unable to complete renewals over the phone due to the high volume of traffic in the office.

Be advised the wait may be one to two hours with the line closed at 3:30 p.m. each day to process transactions.

“The new KAVIS system is moving to a customer-based program versus the old system where each vehicle had to be looked up and processed individually,” the Clerk’s Office explained in a Facebook post.

“This means that we are having to merge your vehicle history into your driver’s license verified account.  With that brings some old data, tax segment issues, and improperly coded items that must be cleaned up and usually involves the Property Valuation Office.”

This process must be completed for each customer, and some require more steps than others.

“Once this is done, KAVIS will be the efficient system it was intended to be.  Until then, the growing pains will be with us.”

The Clerk’s Office is providing weekly updates via Facebook and will answer questions on the main line for the Auto Department at (270) 685-8434 Ext. 1.
