October is Fire Prevention Month.
The Daviess County Fire Department is raising awareness about open burning regulations with a demonstration at Horse Fork Creek Park.
Fire Inspector/Investigator Keith Hurm uses shredded paper and cardboard to start a small campfire before addressing a larger brush pile.
Remember that during the fall forest fire season, it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between the hours of 6am to 6pm.
Additionally, Daviess County residents should obtain a permit from the Fire Department, if they are requesting to burn anything other than leaves and have less than one acre of land.
Permits are free and may be issued for two weeks at https://www.daviessky.org/burnpermit/.
Open burning is not permitted in the corporate limits of the City of Owensboro.
