With historically high rainfall amounts forecast for later this week, the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency is making sandbags available to the public.
Volunteers are requested to fill sandbags on Tuesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to Noon. The sandbags will be located at the Daviess County Operations Center at 2620 Kentucky Highway 81 in Owensboro.
Any youth or adult, age 15 and older, may assist with filling sandbags. Please bring a shovel and gloves if you are able to help.
Sandbags will be available for pickup on Tuesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to Noon or 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be a limit of 100 sandbags per address.
Please note, any business wishing to participate, should bring staff to help fill and load sandbags. Proof of Daviess County residency is required with a mailed bill or statement matching the driver’s license.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch with multiple rounds of heavy rainfall expected from Wednesday, April 2 to Sunday, April 6. Preliminary projections of up to one foot of total rainfall will be possible.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and especially low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
Continue to monitor weather forecasts and be alert for possible flash flooding. Never drive through a flooded roadway.
