Road Crews Prep for Winter Weather with 500 Miles Pre-Treated

Daviess County Public Works is preparing for the first significant winter storm of the season.

Three brine trucks are working the county – one in the east, west and central district.  Around 500 miles will be pre-treated by Saturday afternoon.

The department has roughly 300 tons of salt on hand at the highway garage.  A total of 12 trucks will be running for the main event, with eight plowing rural sections of the county starting on Sunday.  Two trucks will specifically target subdivisions.

Roads that are pre-treated with brine will also be plowed.  For a road to be cleared, there must be a sufficient turnaround for the driver.  Contact Daviess County Public Works with any questions at 270-685-8456.

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect from late Saturday night through early Monday morning.  Heavy mixed precipitation is possible with snow, sleet and ice accumulation.  Power outages and tree damage are possible.  Travel will be difficult with hazardous conditions expected into the Monday morning commute.
