Last week, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) published the final rule on REAL ID and confirmed enforcement will begin on the deadline.
Starting on May 7, 2025, Kentuckians should present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license to board commercial flights, access military bases and other federal facilities that require ID.
A U.S. passport, DHS trusted traveler card (e.g. Global Entry), or U.S. Department of Defense ID would also be accepted.
Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 to enhance security standards for identification, directly in response to the 9/11 attacks.
To obtain a REAL ID, visit a Driver Licensing Regional Office through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The Owensboro location can be found at 2620 Kentucky Highway 81, inside the Daviess County Operations Center.
Walk-ins are accepted but appointments are strongly recommended. Visit https://drive.ky.gov/ to review document requirements.
The next Saturday availability is February 1 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
