Project Lifesaver is a search and rescue program designed to locate individuals who are prone to wander.
The method relies on proven radio technology and specially trained first responders. Clients wear a small transmitter on the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized frequency signal.
If the client goes missing, the caregiver may call 9-1-1. Firefighters use a specialized directional antenna to identify the signal and track the person.
The Daviess County Fire Department demonstrated the technology in a live training exercise on Wednesday, February 5. Participating agencies included the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Daviess County Emergency Management Agency.
First responders were led to the Owensboro Country Club, where they found the client in a golf cart. Our thanks to Commissioner Larry Conder for assisting with this exercise!
The Daviess County Fire Department is accepting new clients for Project Lifesaver. To enroll, contact Inspector/Investigator Keith Hurm at 270-685-8440.
