The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Green River Area Development District are evaluating the feasibility of an ‘outer loop’ around Owensboro.
“Right now, we are working on a study of the potential use or need for an outer loop road that would extend from an area on U.S. 60 East, somewhere around Maceo, down through the southern portion of the county to Bon Harbor on U.S. 60 West,” said Tom Lovett, MPO Coordinator.
“It would provide east-west connectivity and open up a lot of the farmland in the southern portion of the county to commercial or residential development,” he added. “Also, it might relieve some of the heavy traffic we are seeing on U.S. 60 in the area between Frederica Street and Kentucky 54.”
The Owensboro MPO commissioned a study in April of last year to look at the feasibility of constructing the outer loop road.
A virtual public meeting is planned for Tuesday, June 15th to share information and gather feedback. Visit GRADD.com to RSVP for the meeting and complete a survey with your input.
