On November 21, Daviess County Fiscal Court had the first reading of an ordinance that would address the delivery of unsolicited written materials on sidewalks, yards and driveways.
It’s an effort to eliminate unwanted litter and visual blight, with language modeled after a similar ordinance approved by Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in 2017.
The proposed ordinance calls for unsolicited written materials to be delivered to the doorstep, or left personally with the owner/occupant of the home.
County Attorney John Burlew said materials would need to be placed on the front porch, if one exists, or securely attached to the front door or a mail slot, as permitted by the U.S. Postal Service. Another option would be placing the material between a screen door and the front door.
A copy of the proposed ordinance may be found here. Fiscal Court will have the second reading on Thursday, December 5 at 5:00 p.m. in the second floor Courtroom.
