New traffic signals are being installed Tuesday, March 25 at Carter Road and Barron Drive, near the Bypass.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has been working for over two years to address motorist and pedestrian safety at this intersection.
Due to the presence of overhead high voltage lines, traditional steel traffic signal poles were not an option. KYTC opted for lower clearance mast arm poles, which had to be special ordered.
The Transportation Cabinet will block Barron Drive and Middleground Drive West from approximately 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drivers should also watch for periodic lane restrictions on Carter Road throughout the day.
Once the new signals are ready, they will be placed on flash for around two weeks to give motorists time to adjust. An average of 16,258 vehicles traverse this intersection each day.
