New Convenience Center for Transfer Station

The Grimes Avenue Transfer Station is the primary destination for solid waste in Owensboro.

If you live in the city, the garbage collected in front of your house is taken here and then trucked to the Landfill for final disposal.

Commissioner Chris Castlen says a new Convenience Center is planned with 16 unloading bays for customers with small loads of solid waste.

Other improvements are scheduled, including the replacement of the inbound scales and the tipping floor.

As a reminder, the new Solid Waste Rate Schedule includes a $20 penalty fee for loads that arrive without a tarp. It’s part of a larger effort to reduce the amount of litter and debris on our roadways.
