National Pet Adoption Week

Find your new best friend on National Pet Adoption Week!

The Daviess County Animal Shelter has 85 dogs that are waiting for loving homes, as of Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Volunteer David Condon says sometimes there’s a misconception that the Shelter is full of bad, untrainable dogs, with many of them being pit bulls. However, the Shelter has many sizes and breeds, ranging from chihuahuas and hound dogs to dobermanns and huskies.

In fact, Claire, the newest therapy dog for the sheriff’s office, is a one-year-old German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix. She was rescued from the Shelter earlier this year.

If you are not in a place to adopt a pet, consider volunteering once a week to walk dogs or find other ways to assist.
