Memorial Day is an annual observance to honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Daviess County residents are encouraged to attend one of these events, in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Tuesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. – The annual Rolling Thunder – Run for the Wall Commemoration will be held at the Shelton Memorial in Smothers Park.
Friday, May 28 at 4 p.m. – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696 will hold its “Remembrance Field of Poppies” on the north lawn at 311 W. Veterans Blvd.
Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m. – The Glenn Funeral Home Memorial for Veterans and First Responders will be held at Owensboro Memorial Gardens at 5050 KY-144. Sheriff Keith Cain is the featured speaker.
Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m. – The James L. Yates American Legion Post 9 will host a memorial service at the Veterans Triangle in Elmwood Cemetery at 1300 Old Hartford Road.
Sunday, May 30 at 5 p.m. – Utica Baptist Church will hold a Memorial Day service at 415 KY-1207 in Utica.
Monday, May 31 at 8 a.m. – Walk/Run at Gold Star Monument in Smothers Park – sponsored by Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Foundation in partnership with the Kentucky Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers, the Woody Williams Foundation and Carry The Load.
Monday, May 31 at 11 a.m. – The Owensboro-Daviess County Veterans Affairs Committee and the City of Owensboro will hold the annual Memorial Day service at the Owensboro Sportscenter at 1215 Hickman Ave.
Monday, May 31 at 1 p.m. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696 will host its annual sea service at the post.
