Get your compost! After a delayed start, the Daviess County Landfill is producing tons of Class I compost available for lawns and spring flower gardens.
East Commissioner Janie Marksberry and Solid Waste Manager Robbie Hocker provide an update. The Composting Operation was started nearly 15 years ago to divert yard waste from the Contained Landfill.
Leaves collected in the City of Owensboro are combined with sludge from the Regional Water Resource Agency (RWRA) and mixed with a SCARAB compost turner. The compost is cooked to 145-150 degrees, eliminating the pathogens before the material is screened and available for use.
