The Daviess County Landfill anticipates having compost available for sale on the second week of April.
Judge/Executive Charlie Castlen and Site Supervisor Bob Root discuss the process of making compost, which starts with the leaf collection in front of your house each fall.
Those leaves are brought to the Landfill and placed in rows where they are mixed with wastewater sludge. The material must cook for 30 days at an average of 131 degrees before it is screened and ready for sale.
