Daviess County Fiscal Court has designated May as High School Hero Month, in recognition of the 2025 graduating class.
Blood donors play a vital role in the healthcare system of western Kentucky. Voluntarily donating one unit of blood may save as many as three lives.
Approximately 15 percent of the blood supply is collected from high school donors.
The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center ensures the safety of the blood supply and processes 100 percent of the lifesaving blood products needed in Daviess County.
Daviess County had 33 high school heroes from Apollo High School, Daviess County High School, Owensboro High School, Owensboro Innovation Academy, Owensboro Catholic High School, and Trinity High School.
All of these students have donated at least four times before graduating high school.

Chloe Ewing is the recipient of the Daviess County Fiscal Court and Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center $1,000 scholarship, with Preston Pruitt and Elijah Roberts as additional finalists.
