Gas Energy Plant at Landfill Nearing Completion

Infrastructure is nearly complete for a gas energy plant at the Daviess County Landfill.

The plant will convert Landfill gas (LFG) into a clean product that could power industry and homes. LFG is produced by the decomposition of organic material in the Landfill. It is primarily Methane and Carbon Dioxide with small amounts of other gases.

LFG can be collected and used as a renewable energy source or treated to reduce its impact on the environment. The Landfill has finally reached a point with capacity to convert the LFG into a higher quality pipeline gas.

Solid Waste Manager Travis Ricker expects the plant will be operational later this year. He provides an update as crews finish the pipeline connection.
