Daviess County Fiscal Court has pledged a $500,000 matching contribution to the Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County.
A new facility is planned at the northeast corner of West Second Street and Carter Road, near the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden and Thompson-Berry Park.
Fiscal Court is announcing the matching contribution to help with fundraising for the building.
For every dollar raised up to $500,000, Fiscal Court will match the donation dollar for dollar. The pledge is on top of the $2 million the county has already committed to the project.
In his comments to Fiscal Court, Executive Director David Tucker said the new Senior Center would be a “flagship” for the community and a resource, not only for seniors, but other agencies that need meeting space.
The Senior Center has approximately 1000 active members, plus 250 Meals on Wheels clients. Nearly 100,000 meals were served in 2024. This figure includes congregate meals at five locations, the Meals on Wheels program, and frozen meals, in partnership with Morrison Food Service and Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
The Senior Center provides other services, such as recreation, social activities and evidence-based health promotion. For more information, visit https://seniorcenterodc.com/.
