Daviess County Fiscal Court has approved a contract with JKS Architecture for design work on the Daviess County Detention Center renovation.
JKS Architecture was selected in 2023 to prepare a comprehensive facility report, which highlighted the need for a major overhaul of Building 1. Constructed in 2001, the 70,800-sq. ft. facility contains 482 beds.
This project would address civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical issues and restore the facility to near-new condition.
The reorientation and addition associated with the project would result in a total area of 102,400-sq. ft. with 80 additional inmate beds, increasing capacity to 562 beds in Building 1. With the other buildings (which do not require immediate attention) that would result in a licensed bed capacity of 744.
The total renovation cost is estimated at $35 million with a timeline of 2.5-3 years. JKS Architecture will oversee design, bid process and project management services.
