Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) along with the Owensboro Museum of Science and History (OMSH), the Owensboro Botanical Gardens, the Kentucky Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation and the Joe Ford Nature Center is proud to host an exclusive screening event of the documentary “Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut.”
This compelling film dives into the remarkable efforts to rescue the American Chestnut tree from the brink of extinction. There will be two free showings of the documentary, one for OCTC students, at 11 am – 12:15 p.m., and an afternoon showing for the public starting at 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on October 19, 2023, at OCTC’s Blandford Lecture Hall.
The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) has been dedicated to restoring this vital tree species for over 40 years. Their work, in collaboration with passionate citizen scientists and researchers, is the focus of “Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut,” a documentary that sheds light on their unwavering commitment.

The documentary, featuring interviews with scientists, volunteers, and notable figures such as Barbara Kingsolver, Chuck Leavell, Dolly Parton, and Jimmy Carter, underscores the importance of this historic conservation effort.

This exclusive screening event will take place at the Blandford Lecture Hall on OCTC’s Main Campus, located at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Admission is free and open to all. Seating is limited, so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot.
