The Daviess County Fire Department is recognized statewide for its expertise in high angle rope rescue.
This technique is used in situations where the terrain has a steep incline requiring the use of ropes and other specialized equipment for access. Examples might include an industrial setting or a remote location in the woods.
When the ARFF station was built at Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport, it was designed with a training tower that had anchors for rope rescue. Firefighters can practice their skills, including rope handling, anchor systems, rappelling, and patient pick-offs.
Assistant Chief Eric Coleman and Engineer Sam Henderson highlight a training scenario where a patient is trapped in a stairwell.
