The Daviess County Fire Department has reached a significant milestone, achieving a Class 4 ISO rating that could result in lower insurance premiums for local residents.
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) evaluates the quality of public fire protection for communities nationwide, assigning a Public Protection Classification (PPC) grade from 1 to 10.
- 1 means the community has superior property fire protection.
- 10 means the community’s fire protection efforts don’t meet ISO’s minimum criteria.
Insurance companies use the PPC grade to establish fair premiums, and the score is seen as a benchmark for measuring the effectiveness of fire protection. Criteria include staffing and training of the fire department, the availability of the water supply, the quality of the 911 emergency communication system, and community outreach.
Daviess County achieved a record 66.32 on a scale of 0 to 105.5, good enough for a Class 4 rating. The new rating was effective August 1, 2024. Reach out to your insurance company if you don’t see a change in your policy.
More improvements are coming with the addition of nearly 100 fire hydrants throughout the county and the construction of a third centrally located fire station.
