Daviess County Fiscal Court presented checks to five non-profit organizations for their work during Christmas at Panther Creek.
The agencies included: Wendell Foster, Joe Ford Nature Center, Southern Oaks Elementary School, Elite SAR Training, and Owensboro Regional Recovery.
Parks Director Ross Leigh said each organization received $2,753.36, or collectively half of the total event proceeds of $27,533.
The remaining funds go back into the light display, allowing the County to purchase additional decorations to grow the event each year.
Leigh estimated attendance at 16,000 to 20,000 people with approximately 5,500 cars visiting the park over the five weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.
The non-profit agencies are selected by the Park Board during a random drawing in October and supply volunteers to collect the gate admission.
Christmas at Panther Creek will return November 24, 2023, the Friday after Thanksgiving.
