animal control
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office provides Animal Control services. Officers respond to animal complaints and investigate cases of cruelty and neglect with authorization to issue citations for violations of state statutes and local ordinances. To speak with someone about an animal complaint, contact Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch at (270) 687-8888.
Impounded dogs shall be kept for not less than five (5) days, unless reclaimed by their owners, per KRS 258.215. Dogs not reclaimed and those not placed in suitable new homes may be humanely euthanized after the five (5) day holding period, unless the dog has an injury or physical condition which causes it to suffer. In those cases, Animal Control may immediately euthanize the dog, and if a human being has been bitten by the dog, the dog shall be tested for rabies. Upon reclaiming an impounded dog, cat, or ferret, the owner shall show proof of a valid rabies vaccination.
wildlife resources
Animal Control does not assist with wildlife nuisance complaints. The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) maintains a database of wildlife control operators. Click here to use the search tool.
Contact a private lands biologist/KDFWR veterinarian, if you suspect an animal may be sick.
If you believe you may have been exposed to rabies by a raccoon, skunk, fox, coyote or bat, please contact the Green River District Health Department.
