Daviess County Parks Ambassadors

Panther Creek Park, Horse Fork Creek Park, Yellow Creek Park, Little Hurricane Boat Ramp, Daviess County Greenbelt...
 Want to have some fun?

Do you run, fish, hike, watch the wildlife, jog, picnic, fly kites, play disc golf, use the multi-use paved trails, roller blade, bike, visit the nature areas or just like to be outside?

Would you like to ‘give back’ to the community? Well, here is an opportunity for you to provide a service and enjoy the outdoors at the same time!

The Daviess County Parks Ambassadors want you!

Here is an opportunity for anyone who uses the park. The vision is to have a group of volunteers who come to the park with two main goals. First is to have fun and second is to help out a little.

Opportunities would include but surely are not limited to:

  • You would be an extra set of eyes in park

  • Offer information and directions to visitors

  • Assist with special events, such as the The Battle of Sutherland's Hill, in various capacities

  • Help with or lead nature hikes

  • Help out with light maintenance work

  • Greeting visitors and answer questions

  • Maybe help with an outreach program where special needs kids come to a park for an afternoon

  • Assist in weekend operations of the Pioneer Village

  • Help with a birdhouse or habitat program

  • Ride your bike on the paved trails and 'be seen'

  • Maybe you just want to take a walk and maybe give directions or just say hi! You can do that

  • Heck, pull up a lawn chair, get a tan and greet folks. What is better than a smile!

  • Have fun while providing a service

  • You set your schedule. Early, late, weekday, weekends

  • The possibilities are unlimited .

Volunteers would NOT be Rangers, or law enforcement. In our ‘uniform’ you would be recognized as someone who could help with directions, information or aid.

First and foremost, you would be showing visitors that there is someone at the park to offer assistance or information. You would be the extra eyes of the park. If there is a problem, accident or help is needed, you will be able to contact a park employee quickly. They will respond immediately.

The Daviess County Parks Department, with miles of trails, lakes, playgrounds, and picnic areas must rely on its volunteers for support in information, education and the many programs offered to the public. The park attracts visitors not only from the Owensboro area, but also appeals to nature lovers and photographers from other states and even from other countries. Many students and naturalists travel to our parks especially to study and learn about its unique setting and wildlife.

This Daviess County Parks Ambassador (DCPA) program offer a variety of opportunities for people interested in becoming part of this unique volunteer organization.

What is it going to cost me?

Actually, it should cost you nothing, other than your time! You are already coming to the park. Just follow a few scheduling requirements, put on the volunteer uniform, wear your ID badge and you are ready to go. What better of a deal?

If you are the least bit interested, please click on the link below and submit an on-line application. Someone from the Daviess County Parks office will contact you. If you have any questions, you may email us also.

Thanks for your interest.
